FC Barcelona B earned a late victory over Atletico Baleares on Saturday evening thanks to an 85th minutes strike from Rodrigo Tarín which takes them to the top of the table.

Late goals are becoming somewhat a common occurrence for the reserve side this campaign, having scored in the last five minutes of each of their opening four games. While last week they were also on the receiving end of one which ended in a 3-2 loss at Alcoyano, this time they would be the beneficiaries.

It was a quiet first half, one which the defenders of each team would have been far more content than the strikers, with few chances of note at either end.

The second period however was a different story. Barça’s push for an opener grew intense as the hour mark approached with Alberto Perea and Jesus Alfaro testing Atletico keeper Carl.

And on 63 minutes their efforts were rewarded as Rafa Mujica’s strike rebounded off the unfortunate David Prieto into his own net for 1-0.

Atletico, who had not really threatened the Barça goal prior to Prieto’s own goal, sparked into life as Barça switched off momentarily. Xisco Hernandez’s powerful strike was too hot for Suárez and it was all square on 73 minutes.

But as was the case on 3 September against Villarreal B, when it looked Xemi grabbed a late winner to steal the points, this time it was Rodrigo who would be the hero as he headed in from a corner. The win, Barça’s third in the opening four games, means they go top of the league.
