Samper during a Champions League game last year | VICTOR SALGADO - FCB

FC Barcelona midfielder Sergi Samper is set to sign a new deal at the club and will become a member of the first team as of this season.

Samper has represented the club across all of its youth categories, having joined Barça at just six years of age. It was at the FCBEscola where he showcased his quality, and the club’s coaches knew they had a star on their hands.

The youngster was aware of competitiveness, demand and difficulty to ascend to the first team but has dedicated himself to improving and learning from his mentors in his right through the various ranks.

Three seasons at Barça B helped him grow professionally, playing two seasons in the second tier and one in the third, in order to reach the elite level.

Samper has played 103 matches for the reserve team, and last year was captain of the side, picking up vital leadership qualities. He also became a Spanish under-21 international due to his good performances.

Eleven first team appearances

He is no stranger to the first team despite his youth. Samper has trained plenty of times with the first team and has made eleven appearances. He made his debut as a starter against APOEL in the Champions League in 2014/15. He played three more that campaign and then seven more last campaign.
