The Asturian player came up through Bosco d'Avilés, the team from his native town, from the U-16 to U-19 teams (2009-2012). As a senior player, he made the leap to Avilesana Athletic (2012-13), later playing for BM Gijón Jovellanos from 2013 to 2016.
Recoletas Atlético Valladolid scouted him to play in the elite of Spanish handball, where he has become one of the future stars of the Liga Asobal.
His versatility, offensive and defensive capabilities, and good goalscoring led to Barça signing him. Abel Serdio plays for the Spanish national team, debuting with Spain in October 2018.
On January 23, 2019 it was announced that he would play for Barça beginning in the 2019/20 season on a two-year contract with an option for a third.
Serdio plays center, and is strong, agile and complete, capable of defending and attacking. He has a great ability to create space and position himself on attack to find easy scoring chances from the six-meter line.
