Barça have won the Iberian Super Cup after beating Sporting 39-34 in a high-quality final in Vigo. Carlos Ortega's side came through a closely fought first half before taking control after the break to claim their fifth title in five editions of the competition.

Nothing between the sides

The first half was extremely even, with neither side able to establish a significant lead. Dani Fernández was one of Barça's main attacking threats, while the defence kept Sporting in check.

Barça moved 13-10 ahead after 20 minutes, but the Portuguese side quickly responded. Young goalkeeper Albert Quesada then produced an excellent seven-metre save to help Barça take a narrow 19-18 lead into the break.

Barça take control

The Catalans stepped things up in the second half. Aleix Gómez made it 23-20 on the counter before scoring again to extend the advantage to 28-24 after 40 minutes.

Barça gradually took control and moved five goals clear at 30-25. Sporting responded with three unanswered goals late on, but Dika Mem struck from long range at a crucial moment to halt their momentum.

Carlos Ortega's side managed the closing stages well to seal a 39-34 victory and another Iberian Super Cup.

Five out of five

Barça have now won all five editions of the Iberian Super Cup, retaining the trophy they won against Sporting last season.

It is also Barça's second trophy of the season, following the Catalan Super Cup.
