It looked like another comfortable afternoon for Barça. Three goals to the good at the Ciutat de València, they appeared to have the points safely tucked away. But Levante had other ideas. Two late goals suddenly turned a stroll into a nervy finale before Karim Adeyemi produced a spectacular fourth in stoppage time to finally settle a 4-2 win for the Catalans.

Another three points in the bag and another week at the top of the Liga table.

Big moment for Espart

It was a far more dramatic ending than anyone could have imagined after Barça’s start to the game. The blaugrana monopolised possession from the opening whistle and needed just five minutes to make it count. Xavi Espart collected the ball on the edge of the area, worked himself into space and fired a low right-footed shot beyond Mathew Ryan. A special moment for the left-back: his first competitive goal for FC Barcelona.

Lamine doubles the lead

In the 19th minute, Barça moved further ahead. Pau Cubarsí’s pass broke the first line before Fermín López drove forward and found Raphinha. The Brazilian carried the ball into the box and intelligently cut it back for Lamine Yamal, who made no mistake to make it 2-0.

There would be no Raphinha goal for the first time this season, but he was still making a huge contribution. That was his second assist of the game.

Just three minutes into the second half and Barça made it three.

Raphinha raced into space and fed Lamine, who was brought down by Mandi inside the area. Penalty. Lamine himself stepped up and confidently sent Ryan the wrong way for his second of the afternoon and Barça’s third.

At 3-0, everything seemed under control. Raphinha came within inches of adding another, and Hansi Flick was able to make changes with Barça seemingly cruising towards another convincing victory.

Levante refuse to give up

But the home side kept pushing. Joan Garcia had already been called upon to make a good save from Iván Romero, while Christensen had cleared another effort almost on the goal line.

Then, in the 79th minute, Espart’s attempted pass back to Christensen went straight to Iván Romero, who rounded Joan Garcia and rolled the ball into the empty net.

That goal felt merely anecdotal, but the real scare arrived in the 88th minute, when Brugué pounced on a rebound to get Levante back to within just one.

Adeyemi has the final word

Levante sensed the possibility of an extraordinary comeback, but Adeyemi made sure there would be no final twist. Following a solo run from the halfway line, the German produced a wonderful backheel to get past Mandi and calmly slot home. A brilliant individual goal, and the perfect way to end the uncertainty.

Perfect start continues

Flick’s side have now won all six of their competitive matches in 2026/27, equalling the best 100% winning start in club history. But there is now an opportunity to go where no Barça team has gone before. Beat Racing Santander at the Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday and, for the first time ever, FC Barcelona will have started a season with seven wins out of seven.
