Another record for Lamine Yamal and Cubarsí
Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí continue to rewrite the record books, this time in a FIFA World Cup final. In New York, the winger and the defender became the third and fourth youngest players ever to appear in a World Cup final, both doing so in their first World Cup.
Barça's number 10 has moved into third place in the all-time rankings at the age of 19 years and six days. It is yet another milestone for Lamine, who seems to break records on an almost daily basis. The Barça centre-back, meanwhile, sits fourth on the list at 19 years and 178 days. Both have overtaken Kylian Mbappé, who now drops to fifth.
Pelé (17 years and 249 days) and Giuseppe Bergomi (18 years and 201 days) remain first and second in the rankings.
World and European champions before 20
Lamine Yamal also became the youngest player ever to appear in (and win) a World Cup final and a European Championship final, having already lifted the latter in 2024. Yet another record to add to his collection.
Cubarsí named Young Player of the Tournament
Cubarsí, meanwhile, was named the tournament's Best Young Player. The award recognises his outstanding performances throughout the World Cup, where he played every possible minute and helped Spain concede just a single goal. It could hardly have been a better World Cup debut for the Barça defender.
So, more milestones for the two young Barça stars. They seem to enjoy breaking age records together, just as they did when they became the first pair of under-18 players to start the same La Liga match (against Betis in January 2024) and the same Champions League match (against Napoli in March 2024).
