Ferran Torres can't stop scoring! His latest strike against Racing Santander was a special one. Not only did it set Barça on the path to victory and a place in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals, it was also his first goal of the current edition of the knockout competition, and his first while wearing the senyera captain’s armband. A captaincy debut that could hardly have gone better.

Brilliant month

The forward’s love affair with goals shows no sign of slowing down. At El Sardinero, the 'Shark' netted his 15th goal of the season, further cementing his status as Hansi Flick’s leading scorer this campaign. It was his first goal in the 2025/26 Copa del Rey, a competition in which he was particularly prolific last season.

The clock was showing 65 minutes when Torres made the most of a sublime assist from Fermín López, dribbled past Jokin Ezkieta and opened the scoring on what was turning out to e a difficult night against the top team in the second division.

A moment of pure quality that not only broke the deadlock, but also got Torres off the mark in this year’s Copa del Rey. That goal also made him the only Barça player to have scored in every competition this season: 11 in La Liga, two in the Champions League, one in the Spanish Super Cup and now one in the Copa del Rey.

First as captain

The significance of Ferran’s goal went even further. He was wearing the captain’s armband for the first time since joining the club in the winter transfer window of 2022. Now in his fourth and a half season at FC Barcelona, he has become a key figure in the team’s attack, driven by an ever-improving goalscoring rate.
