25 August 2019 is a date that will be remembered in the FC Barcelona history books being a day that a star was born - Ansu Fati. The young striker made his debut for Barça in a league game against Betis aged just 16 years 9 months and 25 days. An electrifying presence in attack, the Guinea Bissau born player soon earned himself a reputation as a record breaker.
From record to record...
It did not take long for Ansu Fati to open his goalscoring account for Barça either. Just six days after his debut he scored his first goal for the blaugrana first team in a game against Osasuna, making him the youngest ever goalscorer for FC Barcelona in La Liga.
A few weeks later he made his debut in the Champions League for Barça against Borussia Dortmund becoming the youngest player every to play in the competition for the Club, just one of many records he was to set in the 2019/20 season.
After 33 games and eight goals as a Barça player Ansu Fati caught the attention of Spanish national team coach Luis Enrique. The former Barça boss handed the youngster his full debut with Spain on 3 September 2020, making him the second youngest player ever to play for Spain.
Consolidating his place in the first team squad
After having arrived at Barça as 10 year old in 2012, it was in 2020/21 season that Ansu Fati established himself as a bona fide first team member. However, after an excellent start to the season which saw him score five goals in his first 10 appearances, a knee injury against Betis in November put an end to the teenager's season.
It was not until 24 August 2021 that Ansu Fati returned to training with his team mates. Now, as part of his recovery the striker will combine individual sessions with sessions with the rest of the first team squad with his gaze firmly fixed on resuming his record breaking career at FC Barcelona.
