Barça celebrating during the second leg of the semi against Valencia | MIGUEL RUIZ-FCB

With a 0-3 aggregate win over Valencia in the Copa del Rey semifinals, FC Barcelona has now reached the tournament’s Final for the fifth consecutive season, an all-time record.

Since the cup competition in Spain was founded in 1903, only four other clubs in history — besides Barça — have reached the final four times in a row.

1905–1908: Real Madrid (won all four)

1930–1933: Athletic Club (won all four)

1942–1945: Athletic Club (won three of four)

1951–1954: Barça (won three of four)

1963–1966: Zaragoza (won two of four)

2014–2017: Barça (won three of four)

This last Barça team, thus, has now surpassed all others and will contest a record fifth final in a row in the 2018 edition. Barça will face Sevilla and is going for its fourth title in a row, something which hasn’t been done since the above-mentioned Athletic Club sides of the early 1930s.

All-time leader in Copa del Rey titles

Beyond the new milestone, Barça is also shooting for its 30th all-time Copa del Rey title, which is the most of any club. Moreover, by knocking out Valencia on Thursday night, Barça also set a new record for the number of Finals reached, with 40, breaking the previous record of 39, set by Real Madrid.
