FC Barcelona were unable to secure three points against Getafe as they were held to a 0-0 draw. Following qualification for the Copa del Rey final, Ernesto Valverde’s team were back on duty for a La Liga match at home. Getafe were tough opposition as they fought for everything and defended excellently. The manager said, “we were lacking some freshness and rhythm, especially in the first half.”

“Getafe are a team who stop you from playing so you don’t get close to their box. As the game went on we attacked more and more and despite our best efforts it wasn’t to be. They defended their box well and we lacked a bit of spark”, explained the manager.

Valverde added: “We have had a busy month and have just reached a final.” Before adding, “We can’t win every game we play or be 100% all the time, and this is why the coming week without a game comes at a great time for us to recover.”

New centre back pairing

Due to the injury of Vermaelen, the suspension for Umtiti and Piqué being rested, Valverde decided to use Digne, a converted full back, and Yerry Mina, who made his debut at the Camp Nou, as centre backs. He had this to say about their performance: “They played very well and we didn’t have too many worries at the back. As the game went on, they improved. I am happy for them as it was a difficult job and they coped well with it.”
