Leo Messi lifts the first trophy of the season | MIGUEL RUIZ - FCB

The most important statistic from Wednesday night is the score. Barça beat Sevilla 3-0, which coupled with a 2-0 win from the first leg equates to a more than emphatic conquest of the Spanish Super Cup trophy. But here are some other facts and stats from the first competitive match of the season at the Camp Nou:

- Arda Turan has got his first complete season at Barça off to a strong start. Playing as part of the forward line, he certainly delivered in the role, scoring once in the first half and then adding a second just moments after the break. And what a goal it was too!

- The Turk has actually scored as many goals as he did in all of last season. He hadn’t scored two in a game since 26 January 2014 against Rayo, back when he was wearing the shirt of Atlético Madrid.

- Leo Messi is just as good as he has always been. If a 4-0 aggregate lead wasn’t already enough, his goal made absolutely sure of the win. That’s one hundred goals for the Argentinian in the Luis Enrique era: And it was against one of his favourite ‘victims’. In 29 games with Sevilla, Messi has scored 28 goals and supplied nine assists.

- It was also the 12th goal that Messi has scored in the Spanish Super Cup, making him the top scorer in the competition. Which all goes to show that the best player in the world hits top form right from the very first game of a season.

Claudio Bravo also played his part by saving a 31st minute penalty, taken by Iborra. He matches the legendary Arconada, who until now was the only goalkeeper to have saved a penalty in the Spanish Super Cup (in 1982).

- FC Barcelona have a staggering 31-0 record in their last eight official matches. The amazing run-in to the end of last season has clearly carried across to the new one, with the team performing exceptionally both in attack and defence, and having gone for 740 minutes of competitive play without leaking a single goal.

André Gomes looked like he’d been part of the Barça system for years! He and fellow newcomers Umtiti, Digne and Denis Suárez all started the game and it was the Portuguese international, along with Umtiti, was led the team in completed passes. The duo had 78 each.

- Umtiti showed that he quite capable of filling in for Gerard Piqué in the centre back role, show skill, courage and character. The handball that led to the Iborra penalty was clearly not intentional, and the Frenchman looked in fine command of his zone.

- Luis Enrique has won eight of the team different trophies that he’s competed for since becoming Barça manager. The only two he’s missed out on were the Spanish Super Cup and the Champions League last season.

- The 5-0 aggregate win in the 2016 Super Cup was the biggest winning margin in the history of a competition that Barça have now won a record twelve times.
