Gerard López


A former Barça player from the early 2000s. He became B team coach in the summer of 2015

Gerard López Segú was born on 12 March 1979 in Granollers. He comes from a Barça family with both his father and two older brothers having played for the first team. Gerard started his footballing career at his home town club before joining the Barça youth teams at the age of 11. After seven seasons in the youth set up, he moved on to Valencia, also having a loan spell at Alavés, where he demonstrated his qualities as an attacking midfielder.

In the year 2000, at the age of 21, Gerard López had several suitors but in the end his links to the blaugranes led him to choose a return to the club of his family. He spent five seasons with the first team, playing in 140 official matches, scoring 10 goals. After a spells at Monaco and Recreativo Huelva, he ended his career with Girona. At the age of 32 he hung up his boots to begin a career as a TV pundit.

In 2013 he became coach of the Catalan national side, his first job as a manager. In the summer of 2015 he was named new coach of Barça B.
