Bartomeu: We have confidence in the team

The president explains that the squad continue "with great ambition" and that now is the time to focus on the league before thinking a comeback against PSG

Before the league clash between FC Barcelona and Leganés, president Josep Maria Bartomeu made it clear that there is “full confidence” in the team following the defeat against Paris Saint-Germain. “We have a great team with the best players in the world and we still have great ambition,” he said to Barça TV and other local media ahead of the game.

“We have to keep fighting for the league. It’s not easy because Real Madrid and Sevilla are strong so it is important to get good results at home,” he continued with two of Barça’s next three league games coming up at Camp Nou.

It is only after those league fixtures that the president will focus on the second leg of the Champions League tie against PSG. “When the game comes around we will take about a comeback. In the first leg the game did not turn out how we wanted it, until then the results had been good.”

“I don’t agree that you could see it coming, we have a good team, some of the best players in the world, but we had a bad day. Things didn’t go well but we have to forget about it and focus on the league. We will think about the comeback when the time comes.

“We have had a difficult January and February with a lot of matches. Many were in the Copa del Rey and we can’t forget that we are in the final.”

The president also touched on the future of coach Luis Enrique. “We agreed with him a while ago that we would talk in April. Now it is time to focus on the games that are coming up. Luis Enrique is the coach that we want, he is doing a fantastic job, and with the exception of Paris, we are happy with results,” said the president.
