The blaugrana player Leo Messi received the Memorial Aldo Rovira prize for the 2016/17 season this morning. The prize is given annually to the best FC Barcelona player of the previous season. It is decided on by a jury of Directors and Heads of Sport from the major Catalan news outlets.
As was announced last June, Leo Messi has won the prize for the fifth time (2009/10, 2010/11, 20012/13, 2014/15 and 2016/17), and he is the player who has won it the most times. The Argentinian had an excellent season in which he clinched the Golden Boot for top scoring in the European leagues with 37 goals in 34 games. In total, he scored a remarkable 54 times.
The event was attended by FC Barcelona Vice President Jordi Mestre; the ex-Director Josep Lluís Rovira and his three grandchildren Claudia, Aldo and Lucas; and the FCF Vice President Josep Llaó among others.
It is worth noting, the prize was created in 2010 in memory of the son of an ex-Director of FC Barceona Josep Lluís Rovira, who died in a road traffic accident a year before. In previous editions of this prize, Javier Mascherano (2013/14), Éric Abidal (2011/12) and Luis Suárez (2015/16) have won as well as Messi.
