Wednesday's 61st edition of the 'Festa del Gamper Estrella Damm' is almost upon with FC Barcelona set to face African giants from Egypt Al Ahly at Spotify Camp Nou, kick off 8pm CEST. For three new arrivals at Barça this summer, Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi and Rodrigo Hernández it will be their first experience of the traditional season curtain raiser at the stadium. To mark the occasion, the three players had their photograph taken with the famous Joan Gamper Trophy.
Gordon: "Everyone has made me feel so welcome"
Anthony Gordon spoke to Club Media on Tuesday ahead of what could be his debut at Spotify Camp Nou in a Barça jersey. "It's a new city, a new country and new team mates and staff but it has been an incredible experience. Everyone has made me feel so welcome. The coach's ideas I already knew and for that reason I wanted to come here because I like the style of play," said the Liverpool born winger.
On the prospect of playing against Al Ahly in the famous stadium in a Barça shirt, Gordon was clear: "I am really excited to see the stadium, put on the Barça jersey and be with the fans," said the England international, adding that his aim is to "score and win the game."
Finally, Gordon had a message for the Barça fans: "Thanks for everything so far, the affection and support. I hope to return it with goals and trophies. Thank you very much."
Wednesday, return to the stadium
Hansi Flick's team are all set for their first home game of the 2026/27, a game which will mark a Spotify Camp Nou debut for the new arrivals this summer.
