Central defender Martina Fernández is coming home after a year and a half at Everton, where she spent the first six months on loan before the move was made permanent the following season. FC Barcelona has exercised the buy-back option agreed with the Merseyside club, so she will once again wear the blaugrana jersey.
Martina Fernández will sign a new contract with the club through to 2029. The official contract signing ceremony will take place at FC Barcelona's offices in the presence of club president Joan Laporta and the director responsible for women's football, Xavier Puig.
Regular starter at Everton
The 21-year-old made 25 appearances in the Women's Super League this season, gaining valuable experience against some of Europe's top players.
29 games for Barça
Martina made her official debut during the 2021/22 season at just 17 years of age and established herself in the first team in 2023/24. Under Jonatan Giráldez, she made a total of 22 appearances, including 15 Liga F matches, 12 of them as a starter.
During the summer ahead of the 2024/25 season, she recovered from a meniscus injury that kept her sidelined for three months. After returning to full training with the team, she went on to make two more Liga F appearances.
