The Barça Academy Dominican Republic were crowned champions of the National U14 Tournament for Associations and Clubs in the Dominican Republic after completing an outstanding campaign that saw them finish ahead of a total of 19 teams from across the country.
The competition began with a group stage organised according to the country's different geographical regions, followed by a knockout phase. On their way to the title, Barça Academy RD defeated KM5 of Nagua in the quarter-finals and then overcame Nacional from Santo Domingo in the semi-finals.
The final was played at Estadio Parque del Este, where the blaugrana side secured a 2-1 victory over SD Colonial, the reigning champions from the 2025 edition. In addition to the team's success, the performances of the Barça Academy RD players also earned individual recognition. Gabriela Sánchez was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Miranda Peña received the award for Best Goalkeeper.
Young team
This achievement is even more significant given that the team was only recently formed. The Barça Academy Dominican Republic's women's project began in January 2025 with the creation of this group of players, who have managed to become national champions in their first appearance in the National Tournament for Associations and Clubs after just a year and a half together.
Beyond the sporting result, this title represents the consolidation of a project built on the commitment, dedication and enthusiasm of the players and their families, whose support and trust have been fundamental to the growth of the academy's women's structure. For the 2026/27 season, the academy's women's programme will continue to expand and will comprise a total of four teams, reaffirming its objective of offering increasing opportunities for the training and development of female footballers in the Dominican Republic.
Benchmark for the women's game
Winning this trophy establishes Barça Academy RD as one of the leading references in girls' grassroots football in the Dominican Republic. This success, together with the recent national title won by the U16 boys team in the National Pre-Youth Tournament for Associations and Clubs, reinforces Barça Academy RD's commitment to continuing to promote the growth and development of the country's young talent through a training model based on sporting excellence and human values.
