Robert Lewandowski is now officially part of FC Barcelona history.

This Sunday, against Real Betis Balompié in Barça’s final home game of the 2025/26 season at Spotify Camp Nou, the Polish striker experienced an emotional farewell in front of the blaugrana fans after announcing on Saturday that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

“It’s been a very emotional and difficult day for me" said Lewandowski after the final whistle as he took the microphone to address the supporters. "When I arrived at Barça, I knew it was a huge club, but I’ve lived through an incredible chapter here. From the very first day I felt at home and I’ll never forget hearing you sing my name.

“Thanks to my teammates and all the coaches. It’s been an honour to play for this club. We’ve shared great moments and I’m proud of everything we achieved. Once a culer, always a culer. Visca el Barça! Visca Catalunya!”

Before those public words, his teammates and members of the coaching staff had already given him the bumps on the pitch. A moment that instantly became part of Barça folklore.

A night full of emotion

As expected, the evening was charged with emotion from the outset. As Hansi Flick had confirmed before the game, Lewandowski started as both captain and centre-forward in Barça’s penultimate league match of the campaign.

From the opening moments, the affection of the supporters towards a player who arrived during one of the club’s most difficult periods was impossible to ignore. Lewandowski was a key part of the change Barça needed, bringing with him his relentless winning mentality and competitive edge.

A collective tribute

The atmosphere had already become special before kick-off. Thousands of shirts bearing Lewandowski’s number 9 filled the stands and, when his name was read out over the stadium speakers, the entire ground erupted into applause.

After four seasons at the club, Lewandowski leaves as its 14th highest scorer of all time, with 119 goals in 192 appearances. Indeed, this week the striker described his spell at Barça as “the most incredible chapter of my career.”

During the game, his teammates constantly looked to feed him the ball and every chance he had was roared on by a crowd fully devoted to a player who leaves behind an unforgettable legacy of goals, leadership and professionalism.

He departs with seven trophies:

  • 3 La Liga titles (2022/23, 2024/25 and 2025/26)
  • 1 Copa del Rey (2024/25)
  • 3 Spanish Super Cups (2022/23, 2024/25 and 2025/26)

Emotions overflow

The most emotional moment arrived in the 84th minute, when Flick decided to substitute him. The entire stadium rose to its feet to give Lewandowski a thunderous standing ovation, perhaps the most special of his Barça career.

With tears in his eyes, the striker waved to the crowd as he embraced teammates and coaching staff. The applause seemed endless as the stadium repeatedly chanted his name.

After the final whistle, the tributes continued on the pitch. Barça vice-president Rafa Yuste presented him with a commemorative gift and, accompanied by his family, Lewandowski left Spotify Camp Nou in tears through a guard of honour formed by his teammates.
