When you fall down, you have to pick yourself back up again was the message from Barça boss Hansi Flick in his pre-match press appearance before his team's game against Celta Vigo on Wednesday in La Liga at Spotify Camp Nou. The majority of questions were not focused on the next opponents but rather the elimination from the Champions League last week by Atlético Madrid. The coach showed himself to be fully focused on the present with two clear wishes for the future.

Proud of his team who give everything

"Every game against Celta is very demanding for us. It won’t be easy, because they always do a great job and can control the pace of the game well. We’ll have to play at best," he said when analysing the next challenge for his side in the league. A competition that, like all Barça supporters, Flick wants to win, though he struck a cautious tone: "We have to take it step by step. It will be difficult because Real Madrid will fight until the very end. We have to give our best. We want to win La Liga, but it’s not done yet."

The exit from the Champions League was painful, but the German coach wanted to take some positives from it: "We’ll give everything for the fans. The elimination hurt us, but it gives us energy for the next few matches. We’ve had a few days of rest and that has helped us clear our heads. The team is in good spirits and always learns from defeats." The desire to improve and the potential of a young team are also two of FC Barcelona’s key strengths according to Flick. A coach proud of his players: "We’re like a family, and that’s fantastic."

"We want to offer our best football. We have a fantastic team and the atmosphere is very positive, and we want to translate that onto the pitch," added the German. Aware that his players must show leadership on the field and stay unite, two fundamental ingredients to ultimately win the Champions League: "We’ll keep trying until we achieve it."

Flick’s two dreams

Hansi Flick did not want to talk about extending his contract, but he did express his desire to continue at FC Barcelona, and with two dreams in mind. On the one hand, winning the Champions League; on the other, being the coach of FC Barcelona when the Spotify Camp Nou is completed: "We have a fantastic young team to win it. I want to be the coach of this team when the stadium construction is finished."

That said, the German coach is fully focused on lifting the league title: "We want to win it, and we need all the players to stay focused; we have to play our best football and give everything for this Club and for the fans," explained a satisfied Flick, pleased with his team’s energy as they face the decisive final stretch of the league season.
