Tottenham Hotspur game to be the first Barça will play at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys this season

Barça welcome Tottenham Hotspur This Tuesday (kick-off 8pm CEST) for the traditional blaugrana season-opening celebration, the Joan Gamper Trophy. The location is different this year, however, as the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys will play host to its Gamper game since 1996. A Gamper of debuts.

The game will see the squad presented for the 2023/24 season in front of the Barça fans, including the new signings Gündoğan, Íñigo Martínez and Oriol Romeu. The new first team captains will also be in action, namely Sergi Roberto, Ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong.

There will also be players from the Barça Genuine Foundation in the stands at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, who will watch the men's first team play at this season's home for the first time.

Tottenham back for the Gamper 37 years later

The English side first played in the Joan Gamper trophy in 1986. The competition had four teams at the time, with semifinals and a final, and the teams didn't end up playing each other, but Spurs and the blaugranas have met on several occasions, starting with the 1981/82 season.

La Liga and the Premier League on the horizon

The Gamper Trophy will be the final game for both Barça and Tottenham before starting their respective league seasons. The current Spanish LaLiga champion sets out in defence of their title away to Getafe on Sunday 13 August (kick-off 9.30pm CEST).

Finishing eighth in the 2022/23 Premier League season, Tottenham will be looking to qualify for Europe again, and face Brentford on 13 August, kick-off 3pm CEST.
