Giráldez: 'We have to win on the pitch and in the stands'

The Barça coach appears confident ahead of the final for which 8,000 blaugrana fans will be present

The final is almost upon us and there is an optimism in the air surrounding the Barça camp. Coach Jonatan Giráldez appeared before the press prior to his players Alexia Putellas and Caroline Graham Hansen. "The atmosphere is one of optimism. We were looking forward to getting here and being here and being able to smell the grass," explained the Giráldez.

The Barça coach maintained that "the memory of Turin is no longer there" and that the team are coming into the game in good shape after having two weeks to prepare for Saturday's showdown in Eindhoven, unlike their opponents who were in action just last Sunday. "I don't think it is something that has an effect. It would be different if we had played in midweek so I think we come into the game in the same shape. Fortunately, for us, we won the league a while ago and now we have had two weeks to prepare."

Opponents Wolfsburg claimed the German Cup this season and were runners up in the league behind Bayern Munich. For Giráldez, it will be important to "dominate the game and minimize their strengths," which the coach identified as quick counters and their ability at set pieces.

Asked about Alexia, the coach said the Ballon d'Or winner was "prepared" for the final. "She has been back with the team for a few weeks but it is true that she has come back gradually. She is available," added the coach, echoing the player herself in her appearance before the press.

The coach admitted that he was clear about his starting XI without giving any clues as to its make up. Giráldez also pointed out the importance of the 8,000 fans who will make the trip to Eindhoven. "The message for the fans is that they bring the same energy that they have brought all season, 10 out of 10. That will be important, we have to win on the pitch and in the stands," concluded the Barça coach.
