25-year-old 1.98m shooting guard/small forward returns after three years in the NBA at the Oklahoma City Thunder

Álex Abrines is on his way back to the Palau Blaugrana. The 25-year-old from the Balearic Islands has reached a two-year agreement with Barça with the option of a third season to come back to the club that he served from 2012 to 2016 and thus bring an end to a three-year stint in the NBA at the Oklahoma City Thunder. He will be officially presented on Monday 15 July at 7.00pm CEST, pending a medical examination.

Stateside adventure

It was in the summer of 2016 that Abrines decided to move across the pond, and since then he has played 174 games, averaging 5.3 points (37% three-point conversion rate) and 16 minutes a game. He spent most of his first two seasons at the Chesapeake Energy Arena playing as a shooting guard, but last season featured as a small forward too.

Back home

Abrines originally came to Barcelona in the summer of 2012 from Unicaja Malaga and spent for seasons under head coach Xavi Pascual. In that time, the Mallorcan made 255 appearances across all competitions, and won the Copa del Rey (2013), Liga ACB (2014) and the Super Cup (2015).

Named EuroLeague Rising Star in 2016, he was also a bronze medallist for Spain at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics that same year.
