Ter Stegen: We want to be the best in both legs

The German goalkeeper says the blaugranes will be going out to win at Camp Nou

Marc-André ter Stegen appeared before the press on Monday in build up to Barça’s Champions League quarter final second leg against Manchester United at Camp Nou, kick off 9.00pm CEST on Tuesday. The German goalkeeper touched on several topics ahead of the decisive clash with the Premier League side:

Barça

“We are a side who are looking to do great things. Before us we have a team who have won a lot of games away from home. We want to show we are the better side over both legs. We need to play well and with personality.”

Concentration

“It will be key to keep control at all times. We saw they know how to play a controlled game. We want to go out and boss the game as always, defending just as we did at Old Trafford.”

Manchester United

“They are a very dangerous side and the result is a little misleading [from the first leg]. It’s a dangerous advantage as we can’t just defend, we have to go out and create chances to try and score.”

De Gea

“He’s one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now. He’s having a good season and he’s been a top player for a while. He’s one of United’s most important players.”

Previous seasons in the Champions League

“We are in good form. We don’t want a repeat of what happened in other seasons. We have to bear it in mind but also think about the future and tomorrow could be the day to pick up a good win. We hope we can win with the help of the fans.”

Gerard Piqué

“He’s a player with great experience and he is very important for us. He’s one of the key figures we need to be successful. We have to congratulate him and we hope he keeps on like that.”

Captaincy

“It’s always a proud moment to wear the armband. It’s at times like that when you think about how long you have been here, in my case almost five years. You can see the changes that there have been in the team and I am one of the ones who has been here longest now.”

Team mates

“I always have confidence in my team mates and they have it in me. That is key to being ready for anything over 90 minutes. Now is the time to show what you can do and be focused.”
