More than a third of voters on the governing body's official website pick the FC Barcelona striker's goal against Roma as the best of the ten candidates
Users of the UEFA website have selected Leo Messi’s goal in the 6-1 defeat of Roma of the best of the season. The second goal in that Champions League fixture was the outcome of a sublime move involving all three members of the trident and a terrifically deft finish from the Argentinian. And he did that in his first appearance since getting injured at the start of the campaign.
The goal amassed 73,331 votes, el 34% of the total cast, more than twice the figure achieved by any of the other nine choices.
Second place went to Inter Movistar futsal player Ricardinho, closely followed by Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, Olympique Lyon women’s team player Camille Abily and the goal that Atlético Madrid’s SaulÑiguez scored against Bayern. There was also another Barça goal in the shortlist, the one scored by Carles Aleñàagainst Roma in the UEFA Youth League and which eventually finished tenth in the poll.
