Born in Sabadell on 28 March 2001, Dani Fernández learned his trade in the blaugrana youth system, where he spent six years until he reached Barça Atlètic, for whom he made his debut in the 2017/18 season. He left two seasons later to join Club Balonmano Cangas in the Liga Asobal. While in Galicia, he became one of the best wingers in the league, and he had scored 277 goals in 64 games before he left the competition.
His big move came in the 2022/23 season, as he signed for TVB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, considered the best league in the world. He put up some superb numbers in Germany too – scoring 314 goals in 84 games across two and a half seasons. In summer 2025, he brought his time in Germany to an end to return home to Barça.
Fernández has also been a regular for Spain. The winger won gold in the 2022 Mediterranean Games and already has two bronze medals from major championships in the 2022 European Championships and the 2024 Olympic Games. Dani Fernández was also named as the best left winger in the Olympic Games.
