A 46-31 win for Barça against Alicante at the Palau Blaugrana, as they got back into the groove after the loss in the Club World Championship final against Veszprém. The blaugranes came through after an even start and remain Liga Asobal leaders.

Even start leads to control

Alicante began the game better and made the most of an uncertain start by Barça to go ahead 2-3. However, Carlos Ortega's side started to go through the gears and turned it around. With an increasingly resolute defence and an assured Sergey Hernández in goal, Barça began to open up a lead that became substantial by the break (26-16).

Good game management

Despite a few moments at the start of the second half, the blaugranes remained in control. Alicante made the most of several consecutive errors by Barça to cut into the lead, but the home side reacted promptly. Ludovic Fàbregas came on to show his quality and Ian Barrufet kept up the scoring, with Barça continuing to find space when constructing play and on counterattacks.

The final stretch of the game saw Alicante manage to make the scoreline look a bit better courtesy of an improved defence and longer attacks, but Barça always remained in control. The blaugranes had a big lead coming into the final 10 minutes and managed the game well to win 46-31.

A solid performance to put the Veszprém match behind them, and the win will be a boost ahead of the Champions League match against Dinamo București at the Palau on 8 October (8.45pm CEST).
