Barça Women will return to Mexico for the third year in a row on their preseason promotional tour. Following the 2023 Summer Tour and another post-season trip in May 2024, the team has once again chosen to visit a country where women’s football enjoys great tradition and popularity, where they will play two friendly matches as part of Barça on Tour 2025, to be held between August 19 and 25.
The first match will be held in the city of Monterrey on 22 August at 9pm local time (4.30am the following day CEST), against the Liga BBVA MX Femenil All-Stars. The venue will be the UANL Stadium, which seats 42,000 spectators and is the usual home of both the men’s and women’s teams of Tigres UANL.
Two days later, on 24 August at 12pm local time (8pm CEST), Pere Romeu’s players will face Club América Femenil at the Ciudad de los Deportes in Mexico City, which holds 36,000 spectators. The Mexican side features two former Barça players: goalkeeper Sandra Paños and recent signing Bruna Vilamala.
This will be the second meeting between the Catalan and Mexican teams, following their previous encounter on 29 August 2023 at the Estadio Azteca, which ended in a 2-0 win for Barça.
In addition to these fixtures (organised, as with previous tours, by Soccer Media Solutions) FC Barcelona will also carry out a series of institutional and promotional activities in Mexico, with the date and locations still to be confirmed.
Mexico: a key territory for women’s football
Mexico is one of FC Barcelona’s strategic commercial territories and also boasts a strong women’s football tradition. It is a country where the women’s game has seen exponential growth in terms of fan following. In fact, the 2023 match between Barça Women and Club América Femenil broke the attendance record for a women’s football friendly in Mexico, with over 35,000 spectators.
Beyond promotional aspects, there has long been a connection in women’s football talent between FC Barcelona and Mexico. In addition to Paños and Vilamala, former Barça players such as Jenni Hermoso, Andrea Pereira, and Andrea Falcón have made their mark in Liga MX Femenil in recent years. Conversely, iconic striker Maribel Domínguez became the first Mexican footballer to play for Barça in January 2005. She was later followed by Patty Pérez (2005/06), Kenti Robles (2011/12), and Pamela Tajonar (2018).
