A strong ball-playing central defender

Òscar Mingueza was born on May 13, 1999 in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, a municipality in the Vallès Occidental region of Catalonia. The centre-back has played at every level for Barça, from U7 through to Barça B. His debut with the B team came on July 27, 2016, in a friendly match against Llagostera, however, it wasn’t until the 2018/19 season that he became a full-time member of the squad.

In 2017/18, he starred for the U19A side, his defensive solidity a major reason why they were able to win the Youth League and the League. Last season 2019/20 he played a total of 16 league games and three in the promotion play-offs.

Mingueza made his senior team debut on 24 November 2020 in the Champions League group stage against Dynamo Kiev, in game that Barça won 4-0. He provided the assist to Martin Braithwaite for the second goal.

In the 2020/21 season, Mingueza played 39 games: 27 in La Liga, five in the Champions League, five in the Copa del Rey and two in the Spanish Super Cup. He scored two goals (both in the league) and gave three assists. In 32 of these games he was in the starting line-up, and in total was on the field for 2,798 minutes.


Òscar Mingueza is defensively sound, elegant in possession and a player that exudes calm when playing out from the back.
