Bittersweet first Clásicos for Mingueza, Araujo and Ilaix

All three had excellent games despite the result

Òscar Mingueza, Ronald Araujo and Ilaix Moriba got their first ever Clásico experiences on Saturday, and although all three excelled, they were unable to celebrate the occasion with a win.

Mingueza: top for tackles, and a goal

Following a run down the wing by Jordi Alba, the defender got to score in his first ever senior game against Real Madrid, and was very nearly involved in an equaliser moments later. He did a great job of marking Vinícius, and was actually the player who won the most balls (10).

Araujo: solid at the back

The Uruguayan joined Mingueza and Lenglet in the centre of defence, with Antoine Griezmann discarded and De Jong moved up the pitch. The biggest moment of his 72 minutes came when he prevented Benzema from almost certainly making it 3-1. Quick and strong in the air, he’s a wonder to have at the back.

Ilaix Moriba: almost the hero

The ‘supersub’ very nearly did it again at Valdebebas. First he had a crack from long range that was only a fraction too high, and then he hit the bar in the final seconds. If he’d scored, his face would have been all over the Sunday papers. But it won’t be the last we’ve seen from him… What a talent!
