Another La Masia player makes his debut. On March 10, 2026, Xavi Espart got his first few minutes as an FC Barcelona player in the Champions League, coming on for Araujo towards the end of the match against Newcastle United. The young player showed assurance and adaptability as he helped see the game through as the late penalty by Lamine Yamal levelled the tie.

After his debut and as is the tradition at Barça, Xavi Espart has had his photo taken with the La Masia sign, and he shared his early impressions with the Club's media. The full-back acknowledged that making his first team debut in the Champions League was "a dream". He's now been able to reflect a little on how he felt that day, stating "I couldn't believe it when I went on the pitch. I really enjoyed it and my emotions were through the roof”. He also explained that he had always dreamed of that moment and being in the first team, sharing a dressing room with teammates who also came though La Masia, which has helped him fit in better, as he went on to say that “being with those teammates helped me fit in and perform”. He also highlighted the confidence from the coach, stating “for a young guy like me, that the coach has trusted me, it meant everything. I really appreciate him. How he trusted in me, made me feel relaxed, under no pressure and so I could play how I know I can”. Despite being thrilled by his debut, Xavi was quite clear that this is just the beginning, going on to say “I have to keep working, training and being ready to make the most of any other opportunity that comes my way”.

Blaugrana route to the first team

Born on May 21 2007, Xavi Espart joined the Club in summer 2015 from UE Vilassar de Mar at the U-10 level. He has progressed through the youth system at La Masia ever since to establishing himself as Barça Atlètic player last season and a key player for the U-19s that won the treble. He is the fourth captain of the development side this season and his role as right back showed his versatility and leadership.

After the debut in Newcastle, Xavi Espart has become part of history at La Masia, an example of patience, hard work and adaptability, and he is looking forward to more opportunities with the first team.
