Last week Fermín López's contract extension was announced and on Friday the Barça number 16 put pen to paper on the deal to keep him at the Club until 2031.
Following the training session in the morning to continue preparations for the visit on Saturday of Real Mallorca in La Liga, Fermín made his way to the Club offices to make his new contract official in the presence of FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta, first vice president Rafa Yuste, the director of the Football Area, Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco, the director Joan Soler and the rest of the members of the Sporting Commission.
A product of La Masia who spent a year on loan at Linares before joining the first team, Fermín's ability to score goals from midfield is one of his key strengths. With 29 goals already for the first team, the midfielder is a key member of Hansi Flick's Barça squad. "The coach has helped me a lot since he arrived; I have improved a lot under him and I am performing well. I thank him for the confidence shown in me and also to my team mates who always help me," said the Andalusian after signing his contract. The midfielder also had kind words for Hansi Flick's predecessor, Xavi Hernández: "He gave me my debut with the first team and for that I am very thankful."
The 22 year old, who came to the Club aged 13, looked to his future as a blaugrana. "I still have a lot of room for improvement and I have always wanted to be here at Barça," he said in an appearance before the press after the signing.
"It's a dream for me"
"I am very happy and for a lad who has loved Barça since he was little, it's a dream to have made it to the first team. I live for Barça," confessed the lifelong blaugrana fan. Fermín is looking to add to his collection of honours: "I hope to make the Barça fans happy and make history at FC Barcelona. It would be a dream to end my career here."
For the moment, however, the focus remains on the current campaign. "The team is really prepared. We have a great squad and we will fight for every trophy, and let's hope we can win them all. We are a family and we want to make history with a great season," said Fermín before concluding: "There is always room to improve but I am in good form and I hope I can help the team in lots of different ways."
