In their Champions League opener, Barça had to work hard to take the win against Newcastle United but a brace from Marcus Rashford was enough to claim all three points. After the game coach Hansi Flick stressed the importance of the victory and his team's "great performance" against the Premier League side.

"It's the Champions League and there is always a great atmosphere. We knew that it was important to not concede on the opening 15 minutes and I am really pleased with what we have done and I am happy with the team," said Flick after the win.

Inevitably, Flick was asked about two goal hero Marcos Rashford: "He's a fantastic player, a great talent and his finishing is incredible. For a striker it's always great to score goals and so I'm really happy for him. With Deco before the season started we said we needed a player like him."

The Barça coach went on to praise Frenkie de Jong who "had been out for 10 days but played all 90 minutes." Joan Garcia's Champions League debut also warranted comment: "To have him in goal is fantastic. Today he saved a few goals and he's great with the ball at his feet."
