The first day of the FC Barcelona tour in Japan has come to a close with Robert Lewandowski giving his thoughts to the media. The Polish striker hailed the arrival of Marcus Rashford, who will join him as part of the attacking options. "Rashford is a very talented player. We played Manchester United two years ago and he was in great form. He can help us and is able to play in different positions", stated the 40 goal man from last season.
The targets this season
As ever, preseason is a time for both preparing and dreaming. What are Barça's aims this season? Is the Champions League the main target? Questions that Lewandowski answered clearly, stating "We have all the trophies in mind. You always need a lot of things in the Champions League: a bit of luck, that players don't get injured... We have to still be alive at the end of the season".
Stronger
In this sense, comparing to the squad last season is unavoidable. "We had a great squad last season, but we are in another position now", he stated, referring to this year the team are coming off the back of winning the domestic treble, which followed a trophy-less season the season before. "I think we are stronger than last year because the first year with Hansi Flick was new for many players, but everyone now knows where we need to go", he concluded.
On Lamine Yamal
Lewandowski was also asked about Lamine Yamal. “He is not a child anymore, he's an adult", grinned the Pole, referring to his recent 18th birthday. “I am sure he can do better than he did last year", he concluded – the number 9 expressing his thoughts on the new number 10.
