Xavi: 'It's a day to enjoy being an FC Barcelona fan'

The coach expresses his satisfaction on completing the job to go through to the Champions League quarter-finals once again

Into the Champions League quarter-finals for FC Barcelona after the winning 3-1 against Napoli in the return leg at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, ensuring they will be in the hat for Friday's draw for the first time in four years.

"It's a day to enjoy being an FC Barcelona fan", commented Xavi post-match, clearly very satisfied with his players' work. "We put in a very complete performance. The team was very good with and without the ball, and we dominated many aspects of the game. I am happy with the players, they've given their all", analysed the coach, going on to add, "That was one of our best games of the season. We can be proud. It's a very proud day for everything concerning FC Barcelona because we are one of the best eight teams in Europe. This team has a lot of merit. It's been a well-rounded and magical night".

Furthermore, Xavi wanted to highlight that "we ended the game very happy, with the supporters in top form, and we showed we are ready to compete in Europe".

"I am very proud, very satisfied and very happy. It's one of my best moments as Barça coach. We are looking forward to the draw with joy, excitement and desire".

 

On specific players

The coach was also asked about some of his players during the press conference. Regarding Sergi Roberto and Oriol Romeu who came on in the second half after a period of Napoli control, he said that "they freshened things up for us". "Sergi Roberto made the difference and brought a lot. He worked very hard and used his judgement well. We haven't used him much recently because he has been carrying a knock, but he is very important for the group", he added.

Regarding Gündoğan, he enthused that "he is one of the best players in the world in his position". And he was even more resounding on Pau Cubarsí, the man of the match, stating "When Cubarsí has the ball, my heart rate doesn't go up. I am calm. That's priceless. He is great at bringing the ball out too. He creates attacking plays and it's great to see him play, wonderful. I am very happy for him".
