João Cancelo has a strained medial collateral ligament in his left knee

The Portuguese defender was forced off after 11 minutes of the win against Las Palmas on Thursday

Tests carried out on Friday show that first team player João Cancelo has a strained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. He is unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return.

The Portuguese defender started the game against Las Palmas but was forced off after just 11 minutes of the match.

Since joining Barça in the summer, Cancelo has played 22 matches as a blaugrana, 16 in La Liga and six in the Champions League, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

Post game recovery session

The Portuguese was absent from Friday's workout following the squad's return from the Canary Islands. The rest of the available first team squad took part in the session as Xavi Hernández's team ready themselves for Sunday's Copa del Rey debut against Barbastro.
