The winning streak continues

A win at the Bernabéu next weekend would match Xavi's best victorious run in La Liga since he took charge

The 1-0 win over Celta, means that Barça remain top the league table without a single defeat. The only dropped points came in the 0-0 draw with Rayo Vallecano on the opening day at Spotify Camp Nou. That wasn't the best of starts, but the next seven games have all ended in wins.

That's matched the seven-win run last season, which included such impressive feats as the 4-0 victory at Real Madrid and an 1-0 win at Sevilla and which eventually ended with a shock home defeat to Cadiz.

It's the best winning streak in Europe's top ranked leagues. Lorient in France have won their last six games, and Monaco and Napoli are currently of runs of five.

Let's keep it going!

Next up is the Clásico. That promises to be the biggest test of the league season so far. Real Madrid will have home advantage and have the exact same record as the Catalans, seven wins and one draw, in their cases against Osasuna a week ago. Barça top the league, but only on goal difference.

Barça have not managed eight consecutive league wins since the 2018-19 season under Ernesto Valverde. There is still a long way to go before matching the amazing 16-match streak in 2010-11 under Pep Guardiola, an all-time Liga record shared with Real Madrid's winning spree in 2016.

Spotlessly clean sheets

One of the key factors behind Barça's fine run has been the ability to avoid conceding goals. In fact, Real Sociedad's goal in a 4-1 defeat to the Catalans is the only time Ter Stegen has been beaten so far this league season. He has now survived a career record 624 minutes of league football without being beaten once.
