Goal against Wales ties the Barça striker with Huntelaar in second place in the all-time list for the Netherlands

Memphis just can’t stop breaking records with his national team and can now be considered one of the greatest international goalscorers of all time. After surpassing Patrick Kluivert earlier this month to become Holland’s third highest goalscorer of all time thanks to a brace against Belgium, his last minute winner against Wales on Tuesday draws him level in second place with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

With 42 goals to his name, only former Arsenal and Manchester United star Robin van Persie has notched up more goals for the Netherlands, 50.

So, another eight goals would make Memphis the all-time top scorer for one of the finest footballing nations in the world.

Legends surpassed

Memphis has not just outscored Patrick Kluivert (40), but other Dutch legends of the class of Dennis Bergkamp (37), Arjen Robben (37), Ruud van Nistelrooy (35), Faas Wilkes (35) and Johan Cruyff (30).

He has achieved this tally in just 79 games, scoring a remarkable 0.53 goals a game, or one for every 143 minutes of football that he has played in the famous orange jersey. He also scored on such grand occasions as the 2014 World Cup and last summer’s European Championship.
