A decade of Barça Clásicos

A decade of Barça Clásicos

The balance over the last ten years between Barça-Madrid fixtures is very favourable for the Catalans, who have won almost half of the 36 games played

A decade of Barça Clásicos. For the last ten years, Barça have been the dominant team in the games against their eternal rival, Real Madrid. Since 2010, a total of 36 Clásicos have been played: 20 in LaLiga, 2 in the Champions League, 8 in the Copa del Rey and 6 in the Spanish Super Cup. Overall, Barça have won almost half the matches; 16 of the 36 Clásicos played this decade. The best streak for the blaugranes was three straight wins in the 2011-2012 season: 3-2 in the Super Cup, 1-3 in LaLiga and 1-2 in the Copa del Rey. Los Blancos have won 10 times, with the same amount of games drawn, including the last one (0-0).

The Bernabéu, a fortress... for Barça

Paradoxically, the stadium where Barça has felt most comfortable and got the most out of the Clásicos in the last decade has been the Santiago Bernabéu. Seventeen Madrid-Barça games have been played there in the last 10 years and 10 of them have been won by the blaugranes. This spectacular run has included many memorable displays; the biggest Barça win of the decade there is from the 2015-2016 league game, in which Barça won 0-4, with goals from Neymar, Iniesta and a double from Suárez. There were also two Clásico Copa del Rey finals at Mestalla (2010-2011 and 2013-2014) in which Barça were beaten by Los Blancos.

The Camp Nou, pending more wins

The dominion at the Bernabéu couldn't be repeated at the Camp Nou. Of the 17 Clásicos played this decade at the stadium, Barça have only won six. Of course, two nights will live long in the memory. The league Clásico in the 2010-2011 season is engraved with gold letters in the club's history books; two goals from Villa and one each from Xavi, Pedro and Jeffren saw the blaugranes to a 5-0 win over Mourinho's team. Another five goals were scored the last time Barça played a Clásico at the Camp Nou. Last season, Ernesto Valverde's men beat the eternal rival 5-1, with a fantastic hat-trick from Suárez to add to goals from Coutinho and Arturo Vidal.

More accurate in front of goal

Barça have been much more successful than Real Madrid in the offensive aspect. The blaugranes have scored 68 times in the 36 Clásicos, which is an average of almost 1.9 goals per game. By contrast, Madrid have scored 19 fewer goals - 49 in total - in the same amount of games, meaning an average of less than 1.4 goals per game. Lionel Messi has been the highest scorer of the decade with 18 goals, followed by Luis Suárez, who has scored 10 against Real Madrid.
