This Sunday, coinciding with the league game between Barça and Valencia, FC Barcelona and its Foundation have organised a series of events to show its solidarity with the towns most affected by the DANA storm last year in the region of Valencia (Paiporta, Catarroja and Benetússer), who are still a long way from a return to normality some two months after the tragedy.
Initiatives to raise money and provide help to the towns in question on behalf of FC Barcelona and its Foundation will take place during the game. The shirts worn by the Barça players in the game against Valencia will be signed by the squad and then auctioned off on-line, just as they were against Espanyol earlier in the season when they raised almost 90,000 Euros.
Also whilst the game is being played, a message showing how to donate money – via Bizum 10758 (Spain only) or a QR code – will be shown on the advertising hoardings and on the video scoreboards.
Finally, fans and members at Barça will be given the option to donate via 'Fila 0 solidària'. This option is available on the sales channels for all tickets for professional teams at the Club as well those for the Museum with a form providing the different donation options.
Additionally, there will a demonstration of human towers with music and dancing provided by the 'Federació de Folklore de la Comunitat Valenciana', represented by the Associations: Grup de danses i rondalla Repicó de Manises and Grup de danses La Senyera de València. A hundred 'castellers' from the Barcelona group “Arreplegats de la Zona Universitària” will also build a three pillared human tower – two of which will fly the Catalan and Pais Valencià flags – at the moment both teams come out on to the field. This will show the solidarity of Catalonia and Barça with the people of the region of Valencia affected by the terrible natural disaster.
FC Barcelona and its Foundation are closely monitoring the help needed by those affected, especially regarding restoring safe spaces for children and young people to keep on playing sport.
During the emergency, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Dr. Segú from the Foundation directly contacted the mayors of the three towns to offer their support and financial support from both the Club and the FC Barcelona Foundation. Later, in the month of December, the director general of the Foundation visited the towns of Paiporta, Catarroja and Benetússer to see the situation in person, and decide what type of aid was most needed with the mayors.
