FC Barcelona will release a series of stickers and photo frames for its fans in China throughout the 2021/22 season on popular Chinese image processing app, Meitu XiuXiu. Barça is the first sports organization to launch content on Meitu XiuXiu, the second most popular app amongst Gen Z in China, with a staggering 114 million monthly active users recorded until 30th December 2020, most of whom are women.
This new interactive Barça digital content reinforces the Club’s focus on female empowerment, as Barça seeks to strengthen its connection with its female fans in China and bring them closer to the Club. Fans can look forward to new collections at special moments in the 2021/22 season, including Chinese New Year and El Clásico and will have the chance to vote on which stickers and frames are released in the future.
FC Barcelona is regularly exploring new platforms with a view to expanding its online presence and to better engage with its fans in China. Barça’s official account on Douyin, for example, had the highest following and engagement amongst other football clubs in 2020 and the Club also launched an official channel on iQIYI in 2020 to produce exclusive content for its fans in China. These projects form part of the Club’s wider digital vision, which strives to deliver high quality, localized content on popular platforms to its fans around the world.
