24 August 1926 marked the birth of Barça basketball. One hundred years later, the club is celebrating. This Monday, figures from the basketball section and those of all the club's other sports gathered for an event at the Auditori 1899 to mark the centenary.

A video looking back at the history of Barça basketball over the past 100 years opened the event, before the presentation of the ten initiatives that will take place throughout the 2026/27 season to commemorate the founding of the section.

Several members of the basketball first team were present, along with new head coach Aleksander Sekulic. Leading figures from the section also spoke, including Sisco Pujol, the director responsible for Barça Basketball, as well as former players and Barça pioneers, who recalled some of the milestones achieved over the past century.

    Years of glory

    FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta delivered the closing remarks. He began his speech by saying "we are proud to have six top-level professional teams today that aspire, season after season, to win domestic and international titles."

    Laporta also recalled the section's beginnings on the Sol de Baix court and the subsequent opening of the Palau Blaugrana in 1971, where Barça have played their home games for the past 55 years.

    The president paid tribute to some of the section's legendary players of the 1980s, such as Epi, Solozábal, Flores, Sibilio, De la Cruz, Norris and Jiménez, as well as otheras of more recent eras, including Navarro, De la Fuente, Dueñas and Jasikevicius.

    To conclude, Laporta delivered an upbeat message about the future of the basketball section: "We have a new team whose mission, starting this season, is to renew the hopes and excitement of the Barça fans ... And we have a new Palau on the horizon that will usher in a new era for FC Barcelona."
