There was a real party atmosphere for the Barça Legends first game at the Camp Nou. The legends from Barça and Manchester United put on a real show for the almost 50,000 fans who were at the Stadium on Friday night. The match ended with a 3-1 victory to United thanks to the English side’s clinical finishing.

The most important fact is that all the benefits for the match will go to the PCCB (Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona) project at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, which aims to guarantee paediatric treatment for ill children.

Equal first half

The first 45 minutes delivered lots of impressive moves and some nice tricks which gave the blaugrana fans a chance to remember the days when these players were strutting their stuff for FC Barcelona. A great Ronaldinho free-kick two minutes in almost gave his side the perfect start but Van der Gouw produced a top quality save. Belletti also went close down the right in a move reminiscent of his most famous goal in the Paris final.

The Manchester United Legends also showed they were on form and they tested Barça's goal on numerous occasions. Barça’s Miquel Ángel Nadal, wearing the captain’s armband, made his presence felt with a series of crucial interventions but the visitors still managed to open the scoring. After 14 minutes, Blomqvist scored from a rebound to give United the lead and the only goal of the half.

Brazilian magic

In the second half, the Barça Legends took control of the match with Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Davids and Kluivert combining excellently in attack but they couldn’t quite finish off their moves. United, from a Park run down the right-hand side finished by Poborsky, managed to double their lead in the 57th minute.

Bakero used all 22 of his players but the magical touches continued to be provided by the Brazilian contingent with some spectacular interchanges between Ronaldinho and Rivaldo proving to be a particular highlight. Rivaldo almost scored after a particularly impressive exchange between the two but sent his effort just wide. The English side hung on and then proved just how clinical they are with a Yorke thunderbolt putting them 3-0 up in the 77th minute.

Persistence pays off

In the final minute, the blaugranas got their reward their performance deserved with a move passing through Kluivert and Ronaldinho ending in a one-on-one scored by Dehú. In the end, the Manchester United Legends won a great match between two excellent teams and all the money raised from the night will be put towards the construction of a new centre for investigation into paediatric cancer.
