Aleksandar Vezenkov

Forward

A young, versatile talent, he can counter and score from the outside and inside

Aleksandar Vezenkov arrived at FC Barcelona for the start of the 2015/16 season. The power forward was born in Nicosia, Cyprus started his career in the youth teams at APOEL. In 2009 he moved to Greece to join Aris B.C. This Cypriot with a Bulgarian passport — he has dual citizenship, but plays for Bulgaria — finished his training period with the Aris youth squads and made his official debut with the first team in the 2011/12 season when he was only 15 years old.

The last two seasons saw Vezenkov really come into his own. In Greece he averaged 17 points and 7 rebounds and in his final season he was named league MVP.

Vezenkov has also steadily climbed the ladder in the Bulgarian national system. He was the top scorer of the European Under-16 Championships in 2011, an achievement that he repeated in the European Under-18s in 2013 and then again in the Under-20s in 2014.

Technical profile

Always considered to be one of the best players in his age group in Europe, Vezenkov is a versatile player who can score three pointers and also drive to the basket. He is excellent with his back to the basket and can always find space in the paint. He is quick enough also to be an asset on the counter.
