Munir El Haddadi

Hero of the Barça U19s victory in the UEFA Youth League, Munir el Haddadi is a highly promising striker at Barça

Munir el Haddadi (El Escorial, Madrid, 1 September 1995) made his FC Barcelona first team debut on 24 August 2014, at the age of 18 years and 357 days. The Barça B player could not have hoped for a better start in what was the first game of the Liga season at home to Elche, scoring the second goal in a 3-0 win. This came after he had been the top goalscorer in the preseason with four goals, boosting his potential as the latest star product from La Masia.

Although Munir has come through the youth ranks at Barça, he started out at CD Galapagar and Santa Ana, before later moving to Rayo Majadahonda. He scored 32 goals in 29 games, enough to catch the eyes of the Barça scouts who brought him to the club in the summer of 2011. Under Francesc García Pimienta, Munir started the 2011/12 season in the U19B team, but the next three years would see him rise up the ranks at an explosive rate.

He won the league with the U19B side, and then the Division of Honour with the U19A team as well as the UEFA Youth League. In 2012/2013, he alternated his services between the U19B and U19A teams, and the year after between the U19A team managed by Jordi Vinyals and Eusebio’s Barça B. He made his reserve team debut on 1 March 2014 at the age of 18 years and 181 days and completed the season with 11 games and 4 goals. That was enough to earn him a place in the first team squad for the 2014/2015 preseason and to even get to start the season playing in La Liga under new manager Luis Enrique in the first league game of the campaign in which he scored one of his total of three for the campaign. He featured in 16 games for the first team, 11 as a starter, playing 10 times in the league, 3 in the Champions League and 3 in the Copa del Rey. In the middle of January he returned to the B team squad where he played a further 17 games - 15 in the starting 11 - scoring four goals in the process.

Munir joined the first team squad for the 2015/16 season. The following campaign he spent a successful season on loan at Valencia before returning to the blaugranes.

His international career began with an appearance for full Spanish national side on 8 September 2014. The Madrid born player came on in the 77th minute of a Euro 2016 qualifying game against Macedonia aged just 19 years and 7 days. Previously, he had represented Spain at U19 and U21 level.

During the 2016/17 season, Munir played on loan at Valencia where he had a great season. He was then loaned to Alavés for the following season.

Technical profile

Munir is a natural goalscorer. He is fast and reads the game brilliantly, as well as being wonderful at finding space. But he also has plenty of skill for the ball and always works hard for the sake of the team. He has the potential to be a great player.
