Arda Turan


Star of the Turkish national side, Arda Turan is a combination of strength, character and creativity, a mixture that makes him a match winning player

Arda Turan learnt his trade as a footballer at Galatasaray and made his debut as a professional in 2004/05. He left on loan for a season at Vestel Manisaspor in 2005/06 before returning to the Istanbul club the following season. He became a fixture in the Galatasaray side and in five seasons at the club he became captain and scored a total of 43 goals.

During his time at Galatasaray, Turan also made his debut for the Turkish national side in 2006. In 2008 he played in the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland and at the time of his signing for Barça he had made 81 appearances in a Turkey shirt.

In the summer of 2011 he signed for Atlético Madrid where he stayed for four seasons. During that time he won five trophies, the Europa League, the European Super Cup, the Copa del Rey, the League and the Spanish Super Cup. A key figure in best period in Atlético’s history under Diego Simeone, Turan signed for Barça in the summer of 2015.

Turan made his debut for Barça on January 6, 2016 in a Copa del Rey encounter at Camp Nou against Espanyol. The midfielder was in the starting line up for the game that the blaugranes won 4-1. 

Technical profile

The Turk is an attacking midfielder who has many varied talents. He is strong both physically and in terms of character and combines that with a wonderful technique that makes his dangerous in the final third of the field. He is a creator of goals and a scorer of goals and he was key in Atlético Madrid’s recent successes. He comes to Barça to bring his power and creativity to the midfield.
