André Gomes is an ambidextrous and versatile midfielder who is tall, has great field vision, and has an excellent ability to attack out of the midfield.

André Gomes was born in Grijó (Porto, Portugal) on 30 July 1993.

He began his career with CD Arahelense and played there until October 18, 2012, when he debuted with SL Benfica in a friendly against Gil Vicente FC. He went on to play in 41 games and won a League, a Taça de Portugal, and Portuguese League Cup.

On 16 July 2014 he came to the Spanish La Liga on loan to Valencia CF, where he was a regular in the midfield. He scored his first goal in the fourth game of the season against Getafe. Throughout the season he played 37 of the team's 42 official matches between La Liga and the Copa del Rey, mostly as a starter. He scored four goals.

Having qualified for the Champions League the following season, Gomes's official incorporation into Valencia CF became final. In his second season he made 41 official appearances, with two goals and seven assists.

After two seasons at Valencia, Gomes became a member of FC Barcelona on Thursday, 21 July 2016. He was presented on Wednesday, 27 July, three days before his 23rd birthday. Gomes is the seventh Portuguese player in Barça history.

His debut with the Portugal national team came on 7 September 2014 against Albania. While on loan at Valencia, at just 21 years of age, Gomes became a regular for international duty.

In the summer of 2016, days before his move to FC Barcelona, André Gomes achieved his greatest success with the national team upon winning the European Championship held in France.
