The Board of Directors has approved the details for the 2018 Joan Gamper Trophy game which will take place on 15 August against Argentinian club Boca Juniors. Tickets will go on sale from 19 July.
As every year, before the game there will be the ‘Festa del Gamper Estrella Damm’ which consists of a series of musical performances and games which will take place on the boulevard in front of the main stand at Camp Nou. Again, as is customary, before the game the first team squad for the season 2018/19 will be presented to the fans.
The current Argentinian league champions last featured in the Joan Gamper Trophy in 2008 with Josep Guardiola as coach. Barça took victory thanks to goals from Eto’o and Puyol in second half injury time which gave the blaugranes a 2-1 come from behind win.
The ‘xeneize’ also played in the fixture back in 2003 in a game that was won by the blaugranes in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw over 90 minutes with goals from Tévez for Boca and Gerard for Barça.
Perhaps the most memorable previous meeting came in 1984 when Barça beat the Buenos Aires club 9-1 in the semi-finals of what was then a pre-season tournament. Boca Juniors also took part in 1977, losing 1-0 against German side Schalke 04 and in 1967 when they lost 2-0 against Atlético Madrid.
