This Saturday morning, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta was honoured at a special ceremony organised by the Fundació Veterans de Sitges. Also attending the event were vice-presidents Elena Fort and Joan Soler, along with Sitges mayor Aurora Carbonell. Laporta became the latest figure to be recognised on the Football Walk of Fame, located at Passatge Johan Cruyff 14, at the Camp Municipal d’Aiguadolç football ground.
The commemorative tile dedicated to the Barça president has been installed alongside those honouring other football personalities with links to Sitges, including Johan Cruyff himself, Eusebio Sacristán and Juan Carlos Unzué.
“It is an honour to see my name alongside these football legends,” said Laporta during his speech. He also recalled how Johan Cruyff always said he felt very much at home in Sitges because of its spirit of freedom, a sentiment the president said he shared.
The Football Walk of Fame was inaugurated in 2019 and is an initiative also supported by Sitges Town Council. The town's connection with Johan Cruyff and those close to him goes back many years. As well as the street named after him at the Camp Municipal d’Aiguadolç, Sitges is home to a Cruyff Court sponsored by Aitana Bonmatí.
Earlier in the morning, ahead of the tribute to Laporta, the FC Barcelona Veterans Association team played a friendly match against the Sitges veterans.
