Seeing João Cancelo wind up for a shot when he receives the ball on the edge of the area is becoming customary. The fullback has some unpredictability in his play, but one thing is certain – his rocket shots are a real threat.

Work of art to make it 1-0

He demonstrated this in the best possible way against Racing with goals. It took him only eight minutes to give the blaugranes lift off when he made it 1-0 with an unstoppable rocket of a shot. The ball left his foot at an incredible speed before dipping to go in off the crossbar, way out of the reach of the diving Julen Agirrezabala. The reactions of the fans and his teammates said it all.

"It's the best goal of my career, and it's even more special to score it for this Club", said the fullback post-match, clearly thrilled. That wasn't the only one, though, as there was the goal to make it 3-1. That thunderbolt didn't end up counting as his goal as it was deflected in by Asier Villalibre, but it was further evidence of his justified confidence in his long-range shooting.

Third highest scoring Portuguese player

Although he only added one of the two goals to his total, Cancelo again showed that he feels most at home as a blaugrana. This is his third spell with the Club, now as a permanent signing, and he takes every opportunity to say how wonderful it makes him feel. What's more, in addition to the four goals scored in the 2023/24 season, plus two from last season, his rocket shot against Racing means he now has seven goals in total, making him the third highest scoring Portuguese player for the Club, after Figo and João Félix.

None of those seven goals are run of the mill. He has great technique, is able to beat opponents easily, and faces up against goalkeepers as if he is a centre forward. Of course, as he showed yesterday, he makes the art of scoring rocket shots look easy. João Cancelo, a specialist in scoring great goals.
