Karim Adeyemi will always remember his competitive debut in a Barça shirt. Starting on the left wing, the German marked the occasion with his first competitive goal for the club in first-half stoppage time. It was an important one too, making it 2-0 in the 45+3rd minute and dealing Elche a major psychological blow just before the break.
The 24-year-old played 65 minutes and scored with his only shot of the game, while also completing two successful dribbles.
Raphinha and Lamine in the setup
Raphinha and Lamine Yamal played key roles in the goal, although the move began with Marc Bernal winning the ball back with a header in midfield. Lamine moved it on first time to Raphinha, who held the ball up before picking out Adeyemi. From around the penalty spot, the German kept his composure and finished in style past the advancing Matías Dituro.
Other goalscoring debuts
Adeyemi is not the only Barça player in recent seasons to have marked his debut with a goal. Dani Olmo did the same in Flick’s first season, coming on at half-time and striking in the 82nd minute to earn Barça all three points at Vallecas, traditionally a difficult ground to visit.
Marc Guiu had achieved the same feat the previous season, needing just 23 seconds on the pitch to score his first Barça goal as he latched on to a pass from João Félix before beating Unai Simón.
José Arnáiz (Real Murcia, 2017), Carles Aleñá (Hércules CF, 2016), Sandro Ramírez (Villarreal, 2014), Munir El Haddadi (Elche, 2014) and Jean Marie Dongou (FC Cartagena, 2013) are among the other Barça players in recent years to have scored on their debuts.
